Home InsurancePlease call Blowfish for a free no obligation quotation today on 0845 0210211 Your home is probably the most important possession that you own, so it is essential that it and your contents are properly insured. Whatever kind of property you live in, you want to be adequately protected against whatever perils you face. We will use our expertise to find you a policy to suit your individual circumstances. Experience has taught us that many clients have tended to insure their property through their mortgage lender, and are often unaware of the actual annual cost or the limitations of the cover provided. We will ensure that you know exactly what cover you require to meet you particular needs. Buildings InsuranceIf you have a mortgage, your lender will normally insist that your property is protected by buildings insurance. It usually pays out if your property is affected by fire, floods or subsidence. Policies often cover damage to fixed fittings such as baths and kitchens, as well as garages, sheds and greenhouses, although they may exclude walls, fences, drives and swimming pools. If you buy a leasehold property (such as a flat in a block of flats) the freeholder may have arranged buildings insurance for the whole block, in which case you may not need your own buildings policy. Your cover is based on what your home would cost to rebuild. You can check whether you have enough buildings insurance through the Building Cost Information Service’s website (www.bcis.co.uk). It has an online tool to help you calculate the sum you should insure your property for, in case your house has to be entirely rebuilt. You need to tell your insurer if you extend your property, for example with a loft conversion or conservatory. Contents insuranceThis covers the loss or damage to the contents of your home. It includes items within your home as well as items you take outside, for example cameras, jewellery and laptops. Most policies will cover you against theft and fire, and give you the option to insure against accidental damage. You’ll need to let insurers know of any high-value items you want covered such as expensive jewellery or camera equipment. Insurers may require proof of purchase or valuation certificates, so keep these and take photographs of the items. Your cover may be affected or cancelled if you leave your home empty for a period of time (often as little as 30 days), or if you rent it out. As well as protecting your home for building and contents insurance Blowfish can also help you with a wide range of other general insurance products namely:
